Music
Music overview
Every class, from Nursery to Year 6, receives one 30-minute music lesson per week. Lessons are busy, lively and wholly practical so the children have the opportunity to sing, dance, play both percussion and pitched instruments, develop their rhythm skills and learn to both understand and appreciate a wide range of music.
This academic year, we have engaged with a new music curriculum called Charanga. Charanga is an outstanding resource that has allowed ESPA to engage in a world-leading music teaching and learning platform. Children are able to explore their musical abilities through the use of music appreciation, artist awareness and musical creativity.
Throughout the term, children have been exposed to a variety of musical pieces, learning about both the song history and the artist. Following on from this, they are then able to practice the song and develop a performance piece.
Despite some COVID regulations, singing is still at the heart of our music curriculum as every child has a voice so there are no barriers for anyone – everyone can participate. Therefore, commencing in Summer Term 1, our KS2 choir will be meeting again once a week to engage their musical abilities and expand their knowledge further. Finally, to engage children both in school and at home, we will be posting monthly on Dojo with a chosen musical artist for children to research at home with their family.
We are very excited to see the impact that music is going to have on our school and the wider community!
