Thursday 10th October 2019, reported by Kaleb Halls (6M)
On Thursday 10th October, Year 5 and 6 boys from Edgar Stammers Primary, attended the first round of the Walsall Schools Cup. They were set to play two 15 minute games.
First game Vs Blue Coat School
ESPA’s starting formation was a 1-4-1,with Stephen as a lone defender playing slightly in front of him was Kaleb, playing on the wings were Brendon and Jamie. The selected strikers were David and Taio, with Bayley in goal. Thankfully, Kaleb won the coin flip giving Edgar Stammers kick off. Within minutes, the ball was laid off to Kaleb, who spotted Brendon, and laid the ball off to him. With connecting passes, Brendon transferred the ball to Taio, who dribbled through the midfield. However, his run was soon stopped by their defender.
It didn’t take long for a Blue Coat winger to break through our defence. Fortunately, Bayley was there to intercept their pass. After five minutes, it was time for Tobi and Kayden to replace Stephen and Jamie. A great ball from Kaleb, flew to the other side of the pitch that was controlled perfectly by Taio (our star striker).Skilling on their defender, he smashed the ball into the roof of the net.Next to be replaced were Kaleb and Taio, they were replaced by the two who had been waiting eagerly to come on the pitch. After a few minutes, the ref blew for full time.
Second Game Vs Rushall School.
For this game, we started with a similar team. We knew that this was the most crucial game as it decided whether we would go through to the final in May 2020. To start with, Kaleb had won kick off once more. Spotting Taio, Stephen played the ball right to his feet. Breaking away, Jamie acknowledged Brendon`s run and ‘BANG!’ it was 1-0. Restarting the game, the opposition played a silly pass, bouncing from his team mate`s chest. Quick to respond was Jamie, who challenged and graphed for the ball. The ball was played back with pace to Bayley and with a great touch he saw Kaleb and played it to him. Chesting it down to his feet, Jamie had darted into the box. After the pass made it to him, ‘BOOM’ it was 2-0.The same mistake was made and Taio had made them pay! It was now 3-0.Being subbed off was the same pair. Every time so far they had made the same mistake and this one was no exception, this time acting was Stephen who had successfully managed to dribble through the defence and it flew into the top corner! 4,5,6 goals! This was a goal fest! Having a crack at goal, Tobi rattled the goal post, yet he made up for it by scoring the winner 7-0! After being subbed off Bayley sent a shiver through my spine as he didn't grab the ball, luckily, the other team hit the ball awfully making the ball go wide.
As a result of our outstanding performances, and effort, we have progressed to the Walsall Schools Cup Final! Go Team Stammers!
